Sorry that I'm a little late doing this! This summer has been a whirlwind!
From July 31st - August 6th I had one of the best experiences of my life. When I signed up for Take Action Academy, I really had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that it was a leadership camp with Me to We and that I was going to meet many like-minded people. I was unaware of how amazing it was going to be. When I arrived, I was happy to learn that I knew lots of the facilitators and staff because of the Youth in Action summit and my previous visits to the Vancouver Free the Children office. However, I did not see any familiar faces among the other youth. To be honest, I was still nervous, but I knew that it was going to be a good week.
Wow, was I ever right. After one day of being at this camp, I made lots of new friends, especially in my group The Chavengers (the change-avengers). My facilitators were awesome. The whole week, I felt like I could really be myself. And everyone accepted me! In our break-out room we did many fun, but eye opening and difficult activities. We all shared our concerns, our passions. It was as if we were one big family - set on changing the world.
It is so hard to sum it all up in a couple of paragraphs. I have so many memories and stories. I will definitely go back there.
Kuwa Mabadiliko,
Maddie :)
